Elements of atemi

In Shorinji Kempo, there are five requirements that need to master in delivering, executing a perfect strike to the right point on the body. These are as follow.




1.

Location of Kyusho - our bodies are made of so many pressure or nerve points. Identifying the exact location of the nerve target and knowing the proper strikes are very essentials.

2.

Ma’ai for atemi - checking distance when striking. No matter how good is your technique, if the distance is not correct, it will be ineffective. Learn how to close the gap when striking and creating distance when evading.

3.

Angle of atemi - learning the effective angle when striking kysuho. Hitting these pressure points can revive and knockdown a person so easily.

4.

Speed of atemi – a very fast movement or strike can stun opponent regardless of size. One good example is the eye hitting or groin kicking. These strikes don’t required muscular strength to be perfected. Strike should be fast and accurate to become effective.

5.

Kyojitsu in atemi – learning to attack in unexpected way, learn to create an opening, penetrate your opponent weaknesses and emptiness defense. ”Kyo” means emptiness and “jitsu” is power within when during mental level concentration is high.
